Project Manager – Marae Resilience Emergency Response
Location: Whanganui / Ngaa Rauru rohe I Employment Type: Fixed Term I 6-month Contract I June - December 2025

Te Kaahui o Rauru is seeking a capable and culturally grounded Project Manager to lead the delivery of a key resilience initiative that supports our 12 Ngaa Rauru marae to prepare for the impacts of climate change and natural emergencies.
This project is funded by Te Puni Kookiri and is part of our commitment to ensuring that our marae are equipped to respond to emergencies, support their communities, and uphold the transfer of maatauranga Maaori. The Project Manager will play a central role in coordinating emergency preparedness plans, developing a marae-led Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) database, and producing implementation tools that strengthen long-term resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project mobilisation and coordinate delivery across multiple marae
- Build trusted relationships with marae, uri, Civil Defence partners (WDC, TEMO), and key stakeholders
- Develop practical emergency response tools and preparedness plans
- Design and implement a marae-centred database to collect and manage community information
- Prepare high-quality reporting and deliver a final implementation plan
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven project management experience, particularly in kaupapa Maaori or community-led settings
- Strong relationship and engagement skills
- Experience in emergency planning, civil defence, or disaster risk reduction
- High level of cultural competency and a sound understanding of te reo, tikanga, and marae dynamics
- Skilled in data gathering, analysis, and technical reporting
