REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN! 

 

We’re excited to announce that registrations of the Waitootara Awa Hiikoi 2026 which will take place from 20-23 January 2026. Based at Tauranga Ika Marae, uri will embark on a variety of activities both on and off the awa with everyone staying at Tauranga Ika Marae for the duration of the kaupapa.

 

Cost to participate in the Waitootara Awa Hiikoi is:

• Kaihoe (13 years+ only): $60.00  

• Kaitautoko (6 years+): $30.00

 

Payment can be made directly to Te Kaahui o Rauru via direct credit (please do not bring cash into the TKoR Office as this method of payment will be declined).

 

Once payment has been received, a confirmation email will be sent confirming your place on the Awa Hiikoi.

Refunds will not be given from 5pm on Monday 5th January 2026.

 

For safety purposes, the following rules have also been put into place:

1. The age limit to participate on the river as kaihoe is 13 years and over. (No exceptions)

2. For those under the age of 17, you must be accompanied by an adult on and off the river. Rangatahi-caregiver ratio on the river is 1:1.

3. The maximum capacity for the Awa Hiikoi (on the river) is 20 persons.

4. You must be reasonably fit and able to swim.

5. This is an alcohol and drug free kaupapa.

6. All personal waka must be approved to be suitable prior to the commencement of the WAH.
