Te Korure Ngorerangi
Te Korure Ngorerangi is dedicated to protecting our people and our whenua by reducing vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. This workstream acknowledges the realities our iwi face in a changing environment, while also drawing on the strength of our tikanga, values, and collective knowledge to shape resilient pathways forward.
The initiatives within Te Korure Ngorerangi include Marae Resilience, which supports our marae to prepare for and respond to natural hazards and emergencies, ensuring they remain safe havens and centres of strength for uri. Alongside this is our exploration of renewable energy opportunities, identifying solutions that are both sustainable and aligned with Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi values, so that future generations can access clean and resilient energy systems.
We are also advancing research and action through the Manaaki Whenua project, with its current focus on Haumaru Ngaa Taonga — a kaupapa that seeks to integrate cultural, ethical, and scientific perspectives in the development of pest-control tools and environmental protection strategies. This mahi reflects our belief that caring for our taiao is inseparable from caring for our people.
Climate adaptation sits at the heart of Te Korure Ngorerangi. By preparing our marae, strengthening our environmental knowledge, and investing in future-focused solutions, we are ensuring that our iwi can meet the challenges of a changing climate with resilience, innovation, and unity.
