Te Kawa Tuakiri

Taranaki Tuu Mai 2025

Te Kawa Tuakiri is about strengthening the identity of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi by creating spaces where uri can connect, learn, and celebrate who we are. This workstream ensures that te reo, tikanga, and our shared cultural practices are lived, experienced, and passed on to future generations.

Central to Te Kawa Tuakiri is the commitment to uri engagement, providing meaningful opportunities for whaanau and hapuu to come together and also feedback to Te Kaahui o Rauru. These moments of connection allow uri to reaffirm their belonging, to strengthen their ties with one another and to assist us in ensuring opportunities we're creating for the iwi is what they want. Waananga play an important role in this, offering kaupapa-driven learning spaces where uri can immerse themselves in te reo, tikanga, whakapapa and te taiao, guided by the wisdom and experience of our kaumaatua and experts.

Our broader Ngaa Rauru Kiitahitanga kaupapa also sit within this workstream, ensuring that collective celebrations of identity are a regular and visible part of iwi life. Te Toi Ahurea, the Waitootara Awa Hiikoi, and Taranaki Tuu Mai are examples of events that bring uri together across generations to share in our stories, practices and aspirations. These occasions are more than events – they are opportunities for whakawhanaungatanga, strengthening bonds, building pride, and keeping alive the knowledge and traditions handed down from our tuupuna.

At its heart, Te Kawa Tuakiri exists to nurture a strong, enduring sense of identity for all uri. By celebrating our reo, culture, and traditions, and by fostering meaningful connection, we create opportunities for our people to stand confidently as Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi — now and into the future.
