He Pikinga Poupou

Grant Information

Te Kaahui o Rauru recognises education and personal development as fundamental to a prosperous future for uri, whaanau, hapuu and Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi iwi. To support Ngaa Rauru uri on their learning journeys, Te Kaahui o Rauru provides education grants that are grounded in the values of pono, tika, maaramatanga, kotahitanga, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and whakapapa.

The following grants are available for study completed during the 2026 study year:

  • Tertiary study and training (Undergraduate & Postgraduate)

The purpose of this grant is to assist Ngaa Rauru uri to participate in tertiary education study or training by contributing towards study/training fees.

  • Secondary School Endeavours (Year 13)

These grants will assist Ngaa Rauru uri who are in their final year of their secondary schooling by contributing towards their school fees, learning resources, extra-curricular school activities.

Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are open to applicants that meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi descent and registered with Te Kaahui o Rauru.

  • Reside in Aotearoa.

  • Be studying in 2026 and will commence study before July 2026.

  • Be enrolled with a government recognised secondary school/Wharekura (Year 13) or tertiary institution in Aotearoa.

  • Applicants who have previously received He Pikinga Poupou Grants for tertiary study and training must have achieved a minimum 75% pass rate in the most recent year of funded study and must provide supporting evidence of these academic results.

An application is complete when applicants (or their parents/legal guardian for those under 18) have satisfied the following:

  • Are registered with Te Kaahui o Rauru.

  • Submit a fully completed 2026 He Pikinga Poupou Grants Online application via the Te Kaahui o Rauru website.

  • Provide proof of enrolment in a recognised Secondary School/Wharekura/College within Aotearoa at Year 13 level or a recognised tertiary institution or training establishment in Aotearoa which is accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

  • Supporting evidence of academic results for applicants who have previously received He Pikinga Poupou Grants for tertiary study and training (if applicable).

  • Submit a 30 second video about themselves, their aspirations and how this grant will support these aspirations.

  • Provide proof of course fees e.g. invoice, statement of account (all grants).

  • Provide proof of learning related resources purchased e.g. receipts, statement of account.

  • Bank verified proof of bank account which clearly state the name of the applicant (or parent/legal guardian for those under 18), the bank account and the name of the bank. i.e. bank statement (no banking app screenshots).

Recipients of all grants are encouraged to commit to actively participating in hapuu/marae and Iwi activities and initiatives.

Please note: If no tuition fees are being charged by the tertiary institution, no grant payment will be made available.

Education Grant applications close on Tuesday 31st March 2026.
