
Kaihaapai Ahi Kaaroa - Pou Whiritaki

We are seeking a Kaihaapai Ahi Kaaroa – Pou Whiritaki to support the Ahi Kaaroa (Tribal Development) team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about iwi development, skilled in coordination, and confident building relationships across our rohe.
About the role
As Kaihaapai Ahi Kaaroa – Pou Whiritaki, you will play a key role in supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of kaupapa within the Te Haapai Mauri Annual Plan. You’ll work across a range of iwi projects and events, ensuring our mahi is well-organised, values‑driven, and impactful.
In this role, you will:

Coordinate projects, events, and initiatives across the Ahi Kaaroa work programme

Assist with project scoping, planning, documentation, and reporting

Support the delivery of hui, waananga, and community activities

Build strong relationships with whaanau, marae, hapuu, kaumaatua, rangatahi, partners, and stakeholders

Provide manaakitanga and on-the-ground support at iwi events

Coordinate resources — venues, equipment, paanui, logistics, budgets

Assist with funding research and contract coordination

Represent Te Kaahui o Rauru at kaupapa throughout the rohe
This is a hands-on, community-facing role that requires initiative, adaptability, and a genuine passion for serving our people.
About you
You will thrive in this role if you:

Have experience in project coordination (2+ years preferred) or a strong foundation in organising mahi

Communicate clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing

Are relationship-focused and comfortable engaging with a wide range of uri and stakeholders

Understand tikanga Maaori and kaupapa Maaori ways of working

Are organised, adaptable, and able to juggle multiple priorities

Hold a full NZ driver’s licence and can commit to flexible hours, including some weekends and overnights
Highly valued (but not essential):

A tertiary qualification in project management or a commitment to gaining one

First aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Ability to understand Te Reo Maaori

Confidence representing the iwi at events and kaupapa
