Pou Taiao (Puutaiao Lead)

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Pou Taiao to lead our environmental and resource management function and help advance the environmental aspirations of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to kaitiakitanga and environmental stewardship and wants to make a meaningful contribution to the wellbeing of our whenua, wai, whaanau and future generations.

 

As Pou Taiao, you will provide strategic leadership across environmental planning, resource management, policy development and programme delivery. You will work alongside hapuu, marae, whaanau, councils, Crown agencies and partners to ensure Ngaa Rauru values, interests and aspirations are represented and protected.

 

You will provide expert advice to the Tumu Whakahaere and governance, lead environmental initiatives and projects, and support the integration of taiao priorities across organisational planning and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

The Pou Taiao will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of Te Kaahui o Rauru's environmental and resource management priorities.

  • Provide strategic environmental, cultural and statutory advice to the Tumu Whakahaere and governance.

  • Support and strengthen hapuu participation and capability in environmental planning and decision-making.

  • Lead engagement in resource consent, planning and policy processes.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with hapuu, marae, councils, government agencies and key stakeholders.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities that advance iwi environmental aspirations and outcomes.

  • Manage environmental projects, funding opportunities, budgets and reporting requirements.

  • Monitor environmental risks, legislative change and emerging opportunities affecting Ngaa Rauru interests.

About you

You will bring a combination of environmental expertise, strategic thinking and a genuine commitment to kaupapa Maaori and iwi development.

 

You will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental management, planning, science, policy, law or a related discipline.

  • At least five years' experience in environmental or resource management.

  • Strong knowledge of environmental policy, planning and legislative frameworks.

  • Experience working alongside iwi, hapuu, marae and Maaori communities.

  • Proven project management and stakeholder engagement experience.

  • Strong communication, relationship management and analytical skills.

  • The ability to operate effectively across both strategic and operational environments.

  • An understanding of tikanga Maaori and a commitment to supporting the aspirations of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi.

  • Ability to converse and understand Te Reo Maaori me ona tikanga is desirable.
